SHERWIN-WILLIAMS/3M, GREG BIFFLE CAPTURE NASCAR POLE POSITION AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY

October 2011

Kansas City, Kansas – The October 7th USA TODAY article said it all: NASCAR's Greg Biffle started this week's Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway in the same position he finished on the 1.5-mile oval just over a year ago.

First.

Biffle, who has two of his 16 wins in NASCAR's premier series at Kansas, won his second pole position of the season for the Hollywood Casino 400 with a 174.887-mph lap. "It was a really good lap for the Sherwin-Williams/3M Ford," said Biffle. "We didn't lose our patience, focus or confidence. We kept making changes and working with the car; we ended up being the fastest car."

With high hopes of getting the Sherwin Williams/3M Ford back into Kansas Speedway's victory lane, Biffle led the first 20 laps, and was able to stay in the top five for most of the first 100 laps. Unfortunately, he fell back midway through the race with an ill-handling racecar.

However, he and the Roush Fenway team battled and rebounded in the closing laps and were even back in the top-five with less than 10 laps to go. And they held on, eventually finishing eighth on the board, for a highly respectable top ten finish.

The Sherwin-Williams Co.previously announced this summer at a Cleveland-held ceremony, that it and partner 3M would again team up with Biffle and Roush Fenway to defend its 2010 Sprint Cup Series race victory in Kansas. Sherwin-Williams Chairman and CEO Chris Connor made the announcement in front of 500 cheering fans and employees that the company would again feature its prominent logo and colors on the No. 16 Ford Fusion.

"We made a pretty good run at defending our trophy, and we got a lot of media coverage and national air time capturing the pole and leading the race early on,” said Bobby Moody, director of motorsports for Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes. The race was televised live on ESPN with almost three million viewers catching all the racing action throughout the afternoon.
