Roush Fenway Racing Driver Carl Edwards Finishes First Using AWX® Waterborne Basecoat Finish

March 2014 Warrensville Heights, Ohio – After five hours of rain delays, Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards brought home the NASCAR® Food City 500 checkered flag from Bristol with a first place finish. His No. 99 Ford gleamed as it crossed the finish line, thanks to the AWX Performance Plus™ waterborne paint provided by Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes.

Despite several yellow flags, including the one waved on lap 498 of 500, ultimately ending the race on a caution, Edwards and Roush Fenway teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (in his No. 17 Ford Fusion, also sporting an AWX Performance Plus finish) took first and second places in the race at Bristol. Four other of the top 10 drivers from yesterday’s race also crossed under a checkered flag with Sherwin Williams paint on their stock car bodies.

Sherwin-Williams recently became the “Official Transportation Finishes of NASCAR”. The combination of unparalleled loyalty, sponsor appreciation and far-reaching demographics makes the NASCAR fandom the most highly visible and desirable audience available. It’s also #1 in loyalty to sponsors: Independent research shows NASCAR fans are the most brand-loyal fans in major U.S. sports.

By adding the ‘Official Transportation Finishes of NASCAR’ sponsorship, which includes the automotive coatings category, Sherwin-Williams further expands its visibility as one of the leading product innovators and servicers to the collision repair and original equipment industries. Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes is the only direct distribution automotive paint manufacturer and provides service to its collision repair and OEM customers through nearly 200 company stores in the U.S. and Canada.

For years, some of the biggest names in racing have trusted their race car finishes to Sherwin-Williams. “More than a dozen NASCAR teams currently use Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes,” said Bobby Moody, Director of Motorsports for Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes. “We aim to help teams cross the finish line and ensure that their cars and their sponsors always look good circling the track. This victory also represents yet another win for a car painted in our AWX waterborne coatings.”

With Edwards’ win, he and the 30+ other drivers who now use Sherwin-Williams finishes have more than 200 NASCAR Sprint Cup victories between them and make up a virtual ‘who’s who’ of motorsports’ finest finishers.
